A roof that needs a repair every winter, slipped tiles that keep coming back, or felt that has turned to dust in the loft: these are signs the covering has reached the end of its life. Patching it costs more each year. A new roof resets the clock.

We strip the roof back to the rafters, replace any rotten timber, then fit breathable membrane, new treated battens and your new tiles or slates, with ridges, hips, lead and valleys finished to match. Fascias, soffits and gutters can be done while the scaffold is up.

New roofs questions

How long does a new roof take?

A house takes one to two weeks on site, depending on size, the covering and the weather. We give you the plan in writing before we start.

Tiles or slate?

Both. Concrete interlocking tiles, plain clay tiles and natural slate. We price the covering that suits your house, and the alternatives if you want to compare.

Do I need planning permission for a new roof?

Not for a like-for-like re-roof on most houses. Listed buildings and conservation areas have their own rules, and we flag that at the survey.

What guarantee do I get?

Every new roof comes with our 10-year guarantee, in writing.

How a new roof goes on

Watch a new roof go on, layer by layer

Scroll to build it. This is the order every roof we replace goes back together, and the photos underneath are from our own jobs.

  1. Strip and check the timbersOld covering off, every rafter checked, rotten timber replaced.
  2. Breathable membraneLaid from the eaves up, lapped so water runs out, never in.
  3. New treated battensFixed at the right gauge for the tile or slate you have chosen.
  4. Tiles or slates, course by courseNailed and clipped from the eaves to the ridge.
  5. Ridge and hipsBedded or dry-fixed so the top of the roof stays sealed.
  6. Fascias, soffits and guttersNew roofline so rainwater leaves the house properly.
